I just completed my third week of 45 miles. All in all, things are going well. I’ve got a little bit of pain in my right shin, just below the knee. It hurts first thing in the morning, but goes away after a mile or so of running. I’ve been icing it and working on strengthening it.
Next week, I’ve got a 10K race (my first). So, I’ll probably run in the low 30s next week. I’ve got one speed workout on Tuesday and I’ll substitute the race for my second quality workout of the week.
On another note, I inadvertently ran the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure for the second straight year. During my long run, I ran right into the race. Fortunately, I was able to stay on sidewalks and seawalls…working my way around the crowd. It was actually an interesting 2 miles or so and I ran them fast. I finished my 11 miles at an 8:40 pace…good news for running the half marathon at 8:00 pace in January.
My current goal is to run the 10K in 45 minutes. It’s going to be close.
Hey, congrats on the up and coming race! I’m still struggling to make it to 5k… Up to 4k now, embarrassing, I know. And slow, at that. But it’s still running, right? 😉
Hey everyone starts somewhere and I couldn’t run a full 5K when I first started either. The important thing is to stay dedicated toward your goals – whatever they might be.
