Accidental Rest

We took a spur of the moment trip to North Carolina this weekend, so I was basically a slacker.  I didn’t get a long run in this weekend, much to my chagrin.  It’s not like anyone stopped me from running.  I just partied Friday night and saw a whole lot of hills on Saturday morning.

Monday morning, I was sick so I skipped the gym then too.  Thus, here we are at Tuesday and I’m finally getting to another interval workout.  What’s the problem?  The kids are out of town with my parents, so we’re actually doing spontaneous things that are causing us to not stick to our normal schedule.  Soon, the kids will be back in town and back in school, so the rigid schedule will return in due time.  I’m sticking with spontaneous for now.

Anyway, tomorrow, I plan on a full body strength session, followed by my tempo run on Thursday and an upper body strength session on Friday.   We may go to Universal Studios on Saturday.  If we do that, I’ll fit my long run in on Sunday and adjust next week’s schedule accordingly.  If not, I’ll run the long run on Saturday and next week will be back to normal.  The long run will be 10 miles, which is the peak of the 10K program I’m currently on.

Planned workout

1 mile warmup

4 x 1000m at 8:45 pace, 400m RI

1 mile cool down

Actual workout

1 mile warmup

4 x 1000m at 8;45 pace, 400 m RI

1 mile cool down

This workout was pretty easy.  I was breathing heavy during the last interval and my heart rate got up to 172 BPM, but it certainly wasn’t excritiating.  The top of my left foot did not hurt during the run, but became a little sore during the cool down.  Following Paul’s advice, I left the middle laces fairly loose.
