A new milestone

Today, I was nervous heading to the gym for my speed work. This seems to be a trend. I get nervous before speed workouts for some reason. I guess it’s because the first one I did was harder than I thought it would be. Today wasn’t so bad. I did 6 400 m intervals at 5:42 pace. I think I’m going to speed things up next week.

Today was also another milestone. It was the first time I’ve ever run 5 consecutive days. I’m a little sore after the speedwork, but nothing major. Tomorrow, I have a bike workout and strength training, and then Friday is an off day. So far, I’m happy with my progress.

Actual workout

5 minutes walking

5 minutes at 9:34 pace

I know how you feel about the speed work. I like going fast, but the thought of what this will do to me for the rest of the week is always nagging in the back of my mind. Plus, I have a hard time judging how fast I should go. My initial sprints are always to slow because I am afraid of running out of gas on the final sprints. I guess this is the conserve for later mentality that long distance running has engraved in me. The result is not feeling as though I pushed hard enough early enough to get the full benefits of running fast. Wish me luck, I start my half training next week.

Well, good luck then. I’m already registered for the WDW half next year, but I’ll be sticking to some shorter distances between now and then.
